SI's Adventures In Warcraft ending 8/13/08Turtle. I dislike silliness, foolishness, or being placed in precarious situations where I'm unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or have my well-being threatened. Sorcerra says that everyone reacts to unfamiliar situations that way, and that it's completely Human - an assessment which just makes me dislike the situation that much more. It's not that I don't suffer fools lightly, it's that I don't suffer them at all. The Alliance constantly "requests volunteers" to combat Horde incursions in areas of dispute in Azeroth. Sorcerra, ever dutiful and patriotic passed the call along to our guild's membership, and it has become something of a given that members of our guild routinely answer the call to duty. Until recently, that hasn't been me. I haven't had a problem with that. Until recently, several members of our guild - including Kaelyne - hadn't gone missing in Alterac Valley. Now that I have a problem with. The logistics of mixing large groups of adventurers who seldom (if ever) have worked together previously is staggering. In spite of this, the basic Alliance tactic of surging one offensive team forward to establish a foothold in the Frostwolf Hold while the rest of the offensive group systematically decimates Horde reinforcements is a time-tested stratagem. And it would be fool-proof as well, were it not for Horde defense getting the idea in their undead elf-driven troll-infested cow-heads to set up a bottle-neck in one of the connecting huts leading to entrance of the keeps' main grounds. Apparently Kaelyne, Winterlady and Krysala's group made it in several hours earlier and they haven't been heard from since. Furthermore, since we knew that Drek'Thar wasn't dead, this didn't bode well. And the undead elf-driven troll-infested cow-heads were doing a highly effective job of keeping us out. Based on what was being thrown at us, we'd surmised that a hunter, shaman, and mage were slowing or outright stopping advancement through the hut while they took turns using area effects to kill our forces as a Paladin counteracted our effects and healed them from our damage. Four keeping fifteen at bay. I respect clever opponents. I also make it a point to someday claim the souls of my clever opponents. In many situations, the success of a party is made or broken not by the skill of but by the fate of the group's healer. Let it be known that as a rule, I like Paladins. Well, let's just say I more easily tolerate the ones that do my bidding than not. In addition to their "More Holy Than Thou" attitudes, there is a tendency among them to believe they have an advantage in dealing with Warlocks because they can dispel some of our more devastating effects. I'm of a mind to exploit that belief. At my signal, Angelynn throws an Avenger's Shield into the hut. It doesn't incapacitate our foes, but it slows them down long enough for me to place a Curse of Agony on the Mage, Shaman, and Hunter, then duck back under cover unharmed. The Paladin cleanses my curses off of each of his comrades. Good boy. I have Tarrot begin launching fireballs at the Blood Elf. He can't get out of my imp's line of sight without losing line of sight on his comrades, so he bravely stands his ground. Sorcerra surprises me by being daring enough to accept my challenge to run into the hut (but encased in her ice shield - the wuss) and release a few Arcane explosions before blinking back to safety, buying me enough time to curse the Paladin's comrades once more. As Ahlee places a healing spell over Sorcerra, I notice the corpse of my imp lying prostrate in the doorway. No matter. The day is young, and he's served his purpose. Once again, the Paladin cleanses my curses off of each of his comrades, and heals himself as well. Very good boy. Angelynn again throws her Avenger's Shield into the hut. This time I place a Seed of Corruption on the Hunter, and send my freshly-summoned felhound after the Paladin. Sorcy helps things along with a Frost Nova and a few well-placed Ice Lances to the Hunter's chest. A rogue steps out of the shadows and makes quick work of Parfuum - but too late. With the Paladin temporarily silenced by my felhound, no heals will be forthcoming for the interdictors this round. The seed explodes, and I give the Shaman some much-deserved attention with a shadowbolt to his chest. He falls forward, re-incarnates, and shows his appreciation by throwing a lightning bolt in my face. I feel the energy surge through my skull and hear it strike several of my colleagues behind me. That can't be good. As I wipe the stars from my eyes, I hear Lirpa's freezing trap detonate. My vision clears, and I see the rogue that killed Parfuum decided that he should have the honor of meeting His Beloved Mistress face to face. I grant his boon, and send him screaming in terror into the group of Alliance adventurers at the bottom of the hill. I'm certain they will greet him warmly, and that the Warlocks there will care for him as I would. I place another Seed of Corruption on the Shaman, and using my mastery of demonology, I instantly summon Thoodhun to my side, and send him charging towards the Paladin. The seed detonates. The mage falls. Another shadowbolt to the chest of the Shaman gives me the opportunity to collect a second shard. The Paladin invokes one of the sanctuary spells available to him, protecting him from my felguard's merciless onslaught. I think - at some point - someone should explain to Paladins that "loss of mana" does not fall under the category of "protection from harm", but then how would I entertain myself on the battlefield? As the Paladin uses his Turn Evil spell to drive my felguard away, I drain the remainder of the Paladin's mana - and once his shield drops, steady shots from Lirpa's gun reverberate through the mountains, giving me another shard for my collection. Other Horde reinforcements reveal themselves from the opposite side of the hut. We have a healer with full health and mana. The Horde party doesn't. The obvious ensues. Sorcerra somehow manages not to die. Abyssal Shards that woman can be annoying. But I still have a need for fodder, so I forbear. The Alliance Battlemaster informs me via my scrying crystal that I've collected my sixty-first Honorable Kill in this engagement. "Geez Kyt", begins Sorcerra with a wink and a smile, "if I'd known swiping your girlfriend would get you this motivated, I would have sent Kae to the front months ago!" I give a steely, narrow-eyed glance at our Guild Master as Angelynn raises her warhammer with a shout and leads the uphill charge into the heart of the Horde stronghold. Turtle indeed. A battle is neither slow nor hard when one is focused. I reach in my pouch, and gently stroke my latest prize. "See, my gallant friend? I can be clever too." The shard disappears, and my Succubus materializes by my side. As I begin to follow the others up the hill, Angrida picks a leaf from my forehead. Darn Horde made me muss my hair. I swear if I break a nail during this campaign I shall be very very cross... To be continued... * * * * * Greetings, my little raid fodde... er, guildmates! And welcome to another recitation of events that have transpired within Your Beloved Mistress' Coven! That's right! Warlocks in control of your homepage and dominating your site updates! Soon, all the world will be ours! What? Anywho, let's take a look at how well you've been doing Your Mistress' bidding! Take Heed, Underlings! Please bid a warm welcome to Wendall, wife of Feldunost! Being a friends and family guild, we pride ourselves on dragging our loved-ones into the chaos and mayhem of Azeroth! So when you see Wendall, be sure to lend a warm SI helping hand, so we can get him killed lots later on! Also show some love for our latest recruit, Krassen! Krassen is a 63 Arms Night Elf Warrior boasting hefty talents in mining and blacksmithing, who was referred to us by Zigfried. Officially we won't hold being referred by a gnome against him, but please do keep the pets off of Krassen's armor until we get him acclimated to being killed the SI way. The Oncoming Storm The grind towards 70 ends heroically for some, but marches on gallantly for many others: Congratulations to Phae and Fyni on reaching 70! Ongoing encouragement for Nythyrra (where'd she come from?) at 69, Feldunost at 68, Zigfried at 64, Alteregos at 53, Omegon at 50, Naitalya at 39, Umbrial at 31, Thelaumell at 37, Maxida at 28, Bigbadbishop at 25, Kalonice at 22, Venadin at 21, Veritia at 20, and the newly indoctrinated Wendall and Skellos at 19. Yes, rise my army! RIIIIISSSEEE!!! Rise up as one, and smite the world for Your Mistress! Recently, Ccain, Your Beloved Mistress, Tycharagaan (from Mischief & Mayhem) Lirpaalt, and Dismemberj (with a pinch-hit from Daranene) raided Arcatraz so Ccain could get his [Breastplate of the Bold] from that stingy psycho Harbinger Skyriss. Lots of other things dropped, but we vendored them all because of our innate uberness. Congrats to Brianminor of THC for winning the [Drape of the Dark Reavers] and Kaelnye for winning the [Mantle of the Mind Flayer] from The Shade of Aran during last week's day 2 KZ run. Our combined uberness resulted in many void crystals being split between the vaults of the participating guilds. Day 1 of this week's KZ badge run lead by our new allies The Death Jesters saw the downing of Attumen, Moroes (who still didn't at least drop the Mongoose recipe for Kae - bastard) Maiden, and Opera (Big Bad Wolf). Congrats to Groffios of the aforementioned Death Jesters for winning the [Red Riding Hood's Cloak]. As there were no other upgrades, there was again much void crystal sharing. Good to Know For those of you who have dedicated bank toons, one of the Lirpa-clan has broken away and started a new guild for Signum Incognitus bank alts named (appropriately we think) "SKP". If you're so inclined, take a banking toon and go get that pesky Israfille killed. IKP is a valid form of commerce with this guild, and many others. With so many toons reaching 70, it's not an entirely bad idea to assemble runs for badges, keys, and rep. Ogri'la factioning opens a series of daily quests that pay good gold as well as decent epic gear. Shattered Sun Offensive factioning doesn't require pre-quests, but likewise offers good money, along with gear and factioning. And SSO gems can be purchased with (on average) 15x[Badge of Justice], which in most cases can be a bit less costly than what the raw gems will go for at auction. Also, if you're having a challenge doing dailies, don't be afraid to ask for help, as some quests are more difficult for some classes than others (Kumiko for example is always looking for a meat-shield for the more "confrontational" SSO quests). As always, Malle and Kumi will happily cut your stones and save you a few hundred gold, in exchange for you helping them get rep for the jewel designs, of course. That's all for now. Be back next time to see how well Sorcy fares against the fury of Frostwolf General, Drek'Thar! And there's the small matter of plunging her into the depths of Magtheridon's Lair. Jeez, how hard can it be to get one little mage killed these days? Love Me (That's neither a farewell nor a request)
